Here’s the hard truth.
The night sky is littered with billions of stars further than 6,000 light years away, meaning that the light from these stars has taken longer than 6,000 years to get to earth. This is testable and verifiable science. To ignore this type of concrete scientific fact would be foolish.
I hate to break it to Young Earth Christians, but nature does not support your claim for a 6,000 year old Earth. In fact, the furthest away light source we can detect is called the Background Radiation and dates our universe at a much older 14 billions years.
Either the universe is not 6,000 years old, or God created a 6,000 year old universe with all the characteristics of a 14 billion year old universe to trick us. Personally, I do not believe in a God who intentionally deceives those searching for him.
Another place we find a discrepancy is in the fossil record. Many Christians are weary of evolution because it conflicts with their sunday school version of creation where all the animals magically appeared at one time.
This sudden appearance of animals also has a major problem.
The fossil record has a long winding history of vertebrae fossils which start emerging in great numbers around 542 million years ago at a time referred to as the Cambrian Explosion. While the Cambrian Explosion was a time of extreme diversification and increase of vertebrae population, we do not see any chicken fossils at this time, or primate bones, or whale skeletons, or a multitude of any other modern day fossils.
Even if you do not believe that the isotope dating techniques of the modern day are accurate, these geological facts of the fossil record do not support a sudden appearance of vertebrae (animal) life on planet earth. That is again, unless God created the fossil and geological record to fool us.
